Piglets feeding
Advice Hub

Piglet nutrition — dairy protein where it counts.

Milligans offers two options for pig operations: GRUNTA Pig Blend for boosting existing feed, and Milligans MMR for orphaned or supplementary-fed piglets needing liquid milk feeding.

Feeding

GRUNTA: Pour or sprinkle over food waste, compound feed or mix into a slurry. The dairy protein boosts palatability and growth performance across existing feeding systems. GRUNTA is a supplement to existing feed — not a standalone diet.

Milligans MMR for liquid feeding: Colostrum from the sow in the first 24 hours is essential — manage teat access carefully in large litters to ensure every piglet gets a feed.

Mix at 38–40°C. Feed frequently — newborn piglets naturally feed every 1–2 hours.

Top Tips

Priority Tip
1 Warmth is as important as nutrition. Piglets cannot regulate body temperature. A heat pad or warm bedding is essential — cold is a major cause of piglet mortality regardless of nutrition.
2 Manage teat access in large litters. Smaller piglets get pushed out. Check that lighter animals are getting adequate access to the sow and supplement where needed.
3 Feed orphan piglets frequently. Small volumes multiple times a day mimics natural nursing. As they develop, frequency can be gradually reduced.
4 GRUNTA works alongside existing feed — not instead of it. Use it to boost growth and palatability on top of your normal programme.
5 Watch for competition. In group feeding situations, monitor that all animals are getting access to feed and none are being bullied away from the trough.
